It was supposed to be released for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) along with other platforms, but it was canceled before its launch.

Gameplay
The game was designed as a true open-world experience, allowing the player to explore and play the game at their own pace. The player could control Superman and use his superpowers, such as flight, x-ray vision, heat vision, super hearing, super strength, super speed, and super breath. The game featured three types of gameplay: flying, rescue, and combat. Flying involved navigating Superman through the air and performing aerial maneuvers. Rescue involved saving civilians and preventing disasters in Metropolis. Combat involved fighting villains and enemies, such as Metallo, Bizarro, and Lex Luthor.
Story
The game followed the plot of the film, as well as original content created exclusively for the game. The game started with Superman returning to Earth after a five-year absence, during which he searched for his home planet Krypton. He found out that Lois Lane had moved on with her life and had a son named Jason. He also discovered that Lex Luthor had escaped from prison and had stolen Kryptonian crystals from the Fortress of Solitude. Luthor used the crystals to create a new continent that threatened to destroy the world. Superman had to stop Luthor and his plans, while also dealing with his personal issues and his relationship with Lois.
Development
The game was announced in 2005 and was scheduled to be released in 2006 to coincide with the film's release. However, the game was delayed several times due to technical difficulties and quality issues. The game was eventually released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and Wireless platforms in November 2006. However, the PSP version was never released and was canceled without any official explanation. Some sources speculated that the PSP version was scrapped due to poor sales and reviews of the other versions, or due to hardware limitations of the PSP.
Reception
The game received mixed to negative reviews from critics and fans. The game was praised for its graphics, sound, voice acting, and faithful adaptation of the film and the comic book lore. However, the game was criticized for its repetitive gameplay, lack of variety, technical glitches, poor controls, and lack of challenge. The game was also compared unfavorably to other superhero games, such as Spider-Man 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Legacy
The game is considered one of the worst Superman games ever made, and one of the worst licensed games in general. The game is also regarded as a missed opportunity to create a definitive Superman game that would capture the essence of the character and his world. The game is often used as an example of how not to make a superhero game.
The soundtrack of the game was composed by John Ottman, who also composed the score for the film. The soundtrack featured original music as well as themes from previous Superman films composed by John Williams. The soundtrack was released as a digital download in 2019 by La-La Land Records.
